ANCIENT ONES ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC. is a Florida Non Profit Corporation formed to promote Archaeology for all to enjoy in Marion County Florida.
NEW:  We are now a non-profit 501.c.3 corporation: 
Central Florida Archaeological Research, Inc
 
Our local Ocala Group has been inactive for a couple years, but hope to get started in the future.

Below are pictures from some of our Dig Sites around Marion County.

 

 
 
 

 

Programs for Public Education are being developed for all to take part understanding our history thru Archaeology.

Forest High School Students learn about Archaeology and support this group and take part at the dig sites.

College Central Florida students took Archaeology Courses taught by Dr. Willet Boyer and took part in several dig sites around Marion County for about 10 months. Many of them are making plans to become Archaeologists.

The Mid Florida Historical Research & Recovery Association helped find early settlers buried metal artifacts at the Ancient Hills dig site and then were taught the way Archaeologist perform a unit dig with all required documentation.

Boy Scout weekend camp-out was held where all were taught how an Archaeological Dig is performed and given a chance to dig and shake the shifting screen to actually find artifacts near Moss Bluff.   This year two Boy Scout came to the Museum and lectured by Dr. Willet Boyer about Florida History and Archaeology so they could earn a Merit Badge.

Lectures at the Marion County Museum of History and Archaeology were held to inform the public on what we do and what we have learned.

Three times 30 to 40 high school students have spent the day learning archaeology by actually digging shovel test holes and finding artifacts from the past.

Displays at the Silver River State Park - Ocali Country Days and Flint Knapping Days - Including teaching students Archaeology and how to dig and screen to find artifacts.
