Ancient Ones Ocala Urban ArchaeologyUnder Construction Site Pictures and Artifacts to be added soon!During the summer of 2012, we followed the city contractor as they dug for underground utilities along Fort King Street along 6 blocks on Fort King Street and dug trenches for a new Citizen's Circle next to City Hall. We screened the dug dirt the contractor dug and found thousands of artifacts including whole bottles, glass, ceramics of many types, brass keys, marbles, horseshoes, nails burnt glass from the 1883 fire, several dolls, a 1888 "V" Nickel, chert, bricks, one whole arrowhead point and one tip. We plan on having a display of these items after they are cleaned, identified, and labeled both at the Museum and at City Hall. The issued learned from these finds will be written and saved for all to learn about Ocala's past.*******************************************************Webmaster: Robin Corsiglia 352-236-2635 [email protected]
